Activity 8.2: Reflection
The Relevance of IoT on One’s Lifestyle
The Internet of Things (IoT) connects everyday objects (such as smartphones, smart watches, smart TV) to the Internet, allowing them to sense, communicate, and interact with other objects. In his talk at TEDx Talks, Hougland shared that IoT has the potential to improve healthcare, safety and convenience.
IoT has a lot of applications to our daily tasks. When traveling, IoT gives you possible routes that you can take to arrive at your destination on time. Also, it informs you whether certain roads are impassable or congested.
In terms of security, surveillance cameras or CCTVs allow you to monitor different places synchronously. Also, it alerts you to possible dangers that may occur such as incoming typhoons and earthquakes.
Taking care of your health is important. Gadgets such as smartwatches allow you to track your daily steps, monitor your pulse and heart rate, and keep track of your water intake, etc.
While the emergence of IoT has brought convenience to users, its rapid growth has also posed risks on privacy and security. Preventive measures should be taken in order to avoid data breach, protect personal data, and ensure the safety of connected IoT devices.
